The early history of BMW is filled with exceptional ingenuity, and creativity. Each new year brought new challenges, and new solutions. In 1917, BMW was officially created. In the 1920's the BMW R32, BMW's first motorcycle, is developed. With this motorcycle, BMW acquires numerous world speed records for motorcycles. Also, the Rohrbach Ro VII seaplane with BMW VI engine wins five world records. Also BMW entered the auto market with the acquisition of Fahrzeugwerke Eisenach. In the 1930's BMW won the Concours d'Elegance. They also introduced the "Kidney Style" grill that is on every BMW today. They also introduced the BMW 328 Roadster, which was so popular, that is was nominated for Car of the Century in 1999. Following WWII, BMW made kitchen and garden tools. Within these decades, BMW established themselves as a major company.
