The History of BMW
In 1922 the first BMW plant was built near the current day Olympic complex in Munich. In 1923 Max Friz the company's chief engineer developed the first BMW motorcycle, R32. The R32 held world speed records for motorcycles during most of the 1930's. In 1924 the first intercontinental flight to Persia powered by BMW engines occurred. In 1925 BMW came out with the R 39, BMW's first single cylinder motorcycle. In 1926 the Rohrbach Ro VII seaplane with BMW VI engine wins five world records. In 1927 twenty-nine out of eighty-seven aviation speed records were awarded to BMW. In 1928 BMW acquired Fahrzeugwerke Eisenach. This brought BMW into the auto market. In 1929 Ernst Henne riding a 750 cc BMW sets a new motorcycle record on September 19, 1929, reaching a speed of 134.65 mph (216.75 km/hr).
